Baby tracker apps compared: what really costs what?

They can all log feeds, sleep and nappies. The real differences: does sharing with your partner cost extra? Do ads play sound? What is free, and what needs a subscription?

The short version

  • Almost every baby tracker is "free" with a paid tier. What matters is where the line is drawn.
  • Ads: many free versions have them, according to the stores. No listing says whether they play sound.
  • Huckleberry is brilliantly rated, but English only, and its sleep predictions are paid.
  • Heia: everyday use free, sharing for two free, ads always silent.

Honest up front

  • We make Heia, so this page is not neutral.
  • That is why it only contains what the developers state themselves (store listings, websites). Anything unconfirmed says "not stated".

5 questions before you download a baby app

  1. Does sharing cost extra? When both parents, grandparents or a nanny log entries, the app has to sync. Sometimes free, sometimes subscription only. Check first, not six weeks in.
  2. Can ads play sound? A video ad with sound can wake a baby who has just fallen asleep. Parents describe exactly this in reviews. In Heia, ads are always muted.
  3. How bright is it at 3 a.m.? Look for a real night mode with warm colours, not just grey. More: night mode.
  4. What is free, what costs? Sleep predictions, for example: Huckleberry ("SweetSpot") and Nighp's Baby Tracker ("What's Next") put them in Plus. In Heia the next sleep window is free; the full day plan is part of Plus.
  5. Is it in your language? Some well-known apps are English only. That matters as soon as grandparents join in.

What other apps do well

  • Huckleberry: 4.9 stars from a huge number of ratings, excellent at sleep analysis.
  • Baby Tracker (Nighp): around for years, more than 200,000 ratings on the US App Store.
  • Baby Daybook: dark mode and about 40 languages.

If one of them suits you, that is a good choice.

Heia in 4 points

  • Shared: everyone on their own phone, everyone sees the same – free for two. How it works
  • Night-safe: warm and dark by itself in the evening, one-handed, ads always silent.
  • Everyday free: all 16 entry types, growth chart, 7- and 14-day reports – no account, no trial, no credit card.
  • Privacy first: without an account everything stays on your phone; synced data is stored in the EU.
